Cards & Flowers by Chris Thompson
There are several theories on the
origin of Valentines Day cards. One popular theory is that the early Christian
church had a saint named Valentine who made friends with the children. When Saint
Valentine refused to worship the Roman gods, he was thrown in jail. The children missed
Saint Valentine. So, they wrote small messages to him and tossed them through the bars of
his cell window. While this is only one version of how Valentines Day cards
originated, all have a common theme . . . Love. This holiday is set aside to express your
love to someone special.
Flowers are recognized as a natural way to express
ones sentiments of friendship, affection, love and romance. While roses are the most
popular flower used in this expression, there are a variety of blossoms, each with its own
meaning. To truly express yourself to that special someone, request from your local
florist the flower that conveys your sentiments.
The language of flowers, referenced from the Society
of American Florists, is as follows:

you.

heavenly.
