Stewartstown Lions Club

Since October of 1932, the Stewartstown Lions Club has provided a rich tradition of exemplary service to the Stewartstown community. The Stewartstown Chapter was founded in the midst of the Great Depression by a group of 40 "decent and ordinary men of character" who were eager to serve their community.

The Lions Club has sponsored the local Boy Scout Troop since shortly after the Club was formed in 1932. In addition to their active support of the Boy Scouts, the Lions also support the Pennsylvania Beacon Lodge for the Blind, maintain and erect the community Christmas light display, distribute Christmas baskets and eyeglasses to the needy, conduct drives for the local blood bank, and support the local library and fire company. The groups most enduring fund-raiser, the Chicken Barbecue, dates back to 1954.

Every visible act of generosity by the Lions Club has been exceeded by countless unknown, and therefore forgotten, contributions to individuals and families in need. Since 1985, the Lions have been assisted in their charitable endeavors by the Lioness Club.

For more than 65 years, the Lions Club has cheerfully met the needs of the community. No doubt, as we move into the new millennium, these men of character and spirit will continue to do us proud.
