Summer Beauty Tips
by Karen Trionfo
Summer is just around the bend! With warm weather come the
thoughts of swimming, outdoor sports, vacationing and more. It's an exciting time of the
year. It's also, for some, a time to exercise, lose weight, and improve appearance.
As a licensed electrologist and esthetician, I see lots of
new faces when spring arrives. Some come in for a makeover and others are concerned with
improving their skin using skin care products and facials. My most worried clients are
those with unwanted hair growth.
For centuries, men and women have been concerned about
having hair in all the wrong places. Most don't know that it is common for almost all
women and some men to have unwanted hair growth at some point in their lives.
For women, the problem spots - neck, chin, lip, brows,
bikini lines, breasts - are pretty obvious. All of a sudden these hairs appear and they
wonder why. Well, many things can cause hair growth. A slight hormone imbalance can cause
hairs to sprout. Some causes of the imbalance include pregnancy, birth control pills,
certain medications, stress or heredity.
Unwanted hair in men is usually attributable to heredity.
Hair on the back and eyebrows that are joined together are the most common complaints
among men.
As an electrologist, my biggest concern is how people are
dealing with unwanted hair. Most folks choose temporary methods, such as waxing or
tweezing, to remove unwanted hair. Unfortunately, these methods are not successful. Each
hair is connected, under the skin, to a capillary that sends blood to nourish the
follicle. Think of it in terms of watering a plant. If you nourish a plant, it will grow
stronger and sprout new limbs and leaves. The same is true with hair. Stimulating the hair
by waxing or tweezing will cause the hair to appear more frequently.
Actually, it takes about eight weeks for a hair to grow, so
why do we find ourselves tweezing once a week? The truth is these aren't the same hairs.
The stimulation caused by waxing or tweezing has caused cycles of growth to appear.
Therefore, if you tweeze a hair today and another pops out tomorrow, it's not the same
hair. What seemed to be a good idea at the start has turned into a monthly, weekly, or
daily ritual. Looking in the mirror, grabbing the tweezers, and plucking every unwanted
hair that you see becomes a never-ending battle.
The permanent solution to unwanted hair growth is
electrolysis. Electrolysis has been around for over one hundred years and perfected in the
last few decades. It's a simple and affordable process. A filament that eliminates the
root system treats each hair. When the root is destroyed, the hair can no longer return.
The end result is the best result- NO MORE HAIR!
